The Golden Triangle Curriculum Cooperative (GTCC) is offering this event as part of their 2021 Summer Institute.
It has been proven by research that the most effective way to encourage student growth is by having an effective teacher in the classroom! But, what components make an effective teacher? Teachers need time to reflect, unplug, relax, and explore so that they can be the best versions of themselves in their classroom and at home. The balancing act between the classroom and life at home is a constant challenge. As teachers and administrators leave the field of education in droves, how can we reignite the passion for education and find peace and balance in our professional and personal lives?
This course will focus on reflection, connecting with others, learning new ways to incorporate mindfulness into classrooms, and encouraging educators to find balance so they can be restored to do the MOST important work. While adventuring outside, participants will work through a mindfulness journal of their own to explore and reaffirm balance in their own lives and how they can continue to build on that balance during the school year. Fresh air is good for the soul, so this course will take place completely OUTSIDE and will provide an opportunity for educators to connect with others. This course also will highlight ideas and techniques to incorporate mindfulness in classrooms.
A general schedule is as follows however, completing the full hike is NOT a requirement. We are emphasizing relaxation, exploring, and the power of FRESH AIR. Day 1- Hike the Windy Peak loop in the HighWoods
Day 2- Sluice Boxes State Park (break out those Chacos)
