Facilitating Student Talk, Thinking, and Interaction K-12

A session focused on practical strategies to support teachers in the use and refinement of facilitation skills so that classrooms are safe, connected learning communities where students lead the talking, thinking, interaction and learning! The session begins with a broad view of the Montana Common Core Standards for ELA/literacy, what it means to be literate, and how a facilitative stance to teaching will help achieve the big picture goals of the standards, as well as an optimal environment for supporting social, emotional, and academic development. Participants will be guided through some lesson experiences demonstrating facilitation techniques and cooperative structures. The session concludes with time for participants to reflect on their own classrooms and facilitation.
