Mathematical Practices & Modeling (9-12)

The MCCS for Mathematical Practice is essential components in developing the mathematical understanding of students. Educators must intentionally provide students opportunities to use the mathematical practices to foster their understanding. This session will allow educators to dig deeply into the mathematical practices and explore websites that have rich tasks that will assist in engaging students in the practices. Session Objectives:
  • Recognize how learners engage in the eight Mathematical Practices and how to incorporate them into lessons and activities
  • Analyze video cases of exemplary teaching to identify Mathematical Practices in action
  • Complete dynamic math tasks and compare/contrast these tasks with those presented in your classroom textbook
  • Engage students from your own classroom in rich modeling tasks
